Samarium-Cobalt Magnets Properties

Samarium-cobalt magnets are divided into the SmCo5, or SmCo Series 1:5, and the Sm2Co17, or SmCo Series 2:17.   Sm2Co17 properties and SmCo5 properties are as described in our samarium cobalt properties & grades datasheet:

pdfSamarium Cobalt Magnetic Characteristics

Samarium-Cobalt magnets are brittle and prone to cracking and chipping. Here are some typical mechanical properties of SmCo magnets:

Density: 8.2–8.4 (g/cm3)
Tensile strength: 35(N/mm2)
Flexural strength: 150 (N/mm2)
Vickers hardness: 500-650 (HV)C
